While councillor David Silvester’s comments caused a stir, we should really be worried by the backward views of some people who actually run the country
In the UK, we tend to think of ourselves as a relatively sane country. This is probably partly why the recent comments made by UKIP’s David Silvester, about the recent severe weather being like a much milder (eg. more British) version of Noah’s flood, attracted such attention. We tend more to associate this sort Bible-thumping, shouting at passing cars and declaiming the end of humanity with uncivilised banana republics like, say, the USA. David Silvester, though, is but a lowly councillor, and I would argue that some of the views held by our more mainstream MPs are, albeit in a more subtle way, just as deserving of derision. Here are some of them.
